Learn Tai Chi for beginners with this easy, follow-along lesson. In this video, I guide you step by step from Hold the Moon (also known as Hold a Ball of Qi) through 5 simple stages, progressing naturally into Part the Horse’s Mane.
This beginner-friendly Tai Chi practice is designed to be easy to follow, gentle on the body, and suitable for anyone wanting to improve balance, coordination, relaxation, posture, and mindful movement.
Once you’ve learned these movements, you can repeat them as a form of meditative movement, combining Tai Chi and Qigong to help calm the mind, relax the body, and build flowing energy.
In this video you’ll learn:
Stage 1: Hold the Moon while standing still, alternating arm positions
Stage 2: Shift body weight from side to side while holding the moon
Stage 3: Continue shifting weight, but keep the knees bent so the head stays level as the arms change position
Stage 4: Hold the moon, turn the upper body to the side, then return to the front
Stage 5: Transition into Part the Horse’s Mane, stepping out as you turn to the side
This is a lovely Tai Chi for beginners practice and can also be used as Qigong moving meditation. Repeat it as many times as you like to create a calming, grounding daily routine.
