Breath Therapy is a structured approach to retraining the way you breathe, shifting from dysfunctional patterns to a more natural, efficient way of breathing.
Poor breathing habits can contribute to a range of health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, sleep disorders (such as sleep apnoea and insomnia), asthma, COPD, and even post-Covid breathlessness (“long Covid”). On the other hand, functional breathwork has been shown to enhance overall well-being, improve sleep, and even boost sports performance and endurance.
My Approach
One of the key techniques I use is the Buteyko Method, a scientifically backed approach that focuses on nasal breathing, breath control, and breath-holding exercises. In addition, I may incorporate other methods, such as breathing exercises inspired by Pranayama—a traditional yogic practice that promotes breath awareness and regulation. By combining these techniques, I help clients regain control over their breathing and experience lasting improvements in their health and daily life.
How I Work
I offer both online sessions via Zoom and in-person consultations at my clinic in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire (CV36). Every client starts with a detailed electronic intake form, which includes a comprehensive health survey to help tailor the approach to their specific needs.
- Initial Consultation: Approximately 90 minutes
- Follow-up Sessions: Around 45 minutes, scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or as needed
- Expected Duration: Many clients notice changes after the first session, but long-term improvements typically require a minimum of three sessions. For asthma management and complex breathing issues, the full Buteyko programme consists of at least five sessions.
During our sessions, I provide breath education and practical guidance, along with personalised exercises to practise at home. Daily commitment is essential to achieve meaningful change, so I design tailored programmes that fit each client’s lifestyle. Just like with any form of training, the more you practise, the faster you’ll see results.
