Join me for a weekly Tai Chi Qigong class in Kenilworth, designed to help you move with greater ease, improve balance and body awareness, release tension, and cultivate a greater sense of calm.

This is a gentle, welcoming class suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous experience. You don’t need to be fit, flexible or familiar with Tai Chi to join us.

Each session begins with a gentle full-body warm-up, followed by flowing health qigong exercises to encourage mobility, relaxation and awareness of the body. We then move into beginner-friendly Tai Chi instruction, learning movements progressively and at a comfortable pace.

The class finishes with calming qigong and light breathwork, giving you time to settle, relax and integrate the practice before you leave.

What to Expect

The emphasis in this class is on health, wellbeing and mindful movement, rather than learning a complete traditional Tai Chi form.

You can expect a combination of:

  • Gentle mobility and warm-up exercises
  • Health-focused qigong
  • Beginner Tai Chi movements
  • Balance and coordination exercises
  • Mindful movement and body awareness
  • Calming qigong
  • Light breathwork and relaxation

Movements can be adapted to suit different abilities, and you are welcome to practise seated if preferred or needed. There are plenty of chairs available in the hall.

About Qigong and Tai Chi

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) combines gentle movement, breath and focused attention. Traditional qigong practices are designed to cultivate and regulate qi (“chee”), often translated as vital energy. The practices can encourage relaxation, body awareness, ease of movement and a sense of inner calm.

Tai Chi evolved from qigong and traditional Chinese martial arts. Often described as “meditation in motion”, it uses slow, flowing movements to develop coordination, balance, mobility, focus and awareness.

The Benefits of Regular Practice

Regular Tai Chi and qigong practice may help to:

  • Improve balance and stability
  • Support flexibility and joint mobility
  • Develop coordination and body awareness
  • Encourage better posture
  • Reduce physical tension and promote relaxation
  • Calm the mind and support stress management
  • Encourage gentle, enjoyable movement
  • Support overall wellbeing

The practices are gentle but can be surprisingly powerful. You don’t need to be athletic or flexible to benefit.

Is This Class Right for Me?

This class is particularly suited to you if you:

  • Are completely new to Tai Chi or qigong
  • Want a gentle introduction to Tai Chi
  • Prefer a relaxed, health-focused approach
  • Would like to improve balance, mobility and body awareness
  • Want to incorporate more mindful movement into your week
  • Already practise Tai Chi or qigong and would like a gentle weekly session
  • Prefer the option of practising seated

If you are looking for more traditional Tai Chi form work, you may prefer my second Tuesday class, which runs from 11.15am–12.15pm (starting 15th September 2026) and places greater emphasis on traditional Tai Chi movements, stances, walking and forms.
