Tai Chi Cloud Hands (Yang Style) – Step-by-Step Practice for Beginners

Cloud Hands Walking

Tai Chi Cloud Hands (Yang Style) broken down into 3 progressive stages for beginners and those refining technique.

In this video, I demonstrate Yang Style Tai Chi – Cloud Hands, broken down into three clear stages to help you build understanding, balance, and coordination step by step.

Stage 1:
We keep the lower body still and centred. The focus is on the arm movements combined with a gentle turning of the waist, allowing you to feel the flow and coordination without worrying about footwork or weight shifts.

Stage 2:
We add side-to-side weight shifting, coordinating the movement of the hands with the waist rotation. This stage helps develop balance, rooting, and smooth transitions between left and right.

Stage 3:
We bring everything together with Cloud Hands walking. The body continues the side-to-side weight shift from Stage 2, while the feet step out and in, maintaining approximately one to two fist-widths distance between the feet.

This video is designed for beginners as well as for those who want to refine their technique. It’s intended as a follow-along practice, but I recommend pausing the video after each stage to spend time practicing and feeling the movement before moving on.

Take it slowly, stay relaxed, and enjoy the flow
